Mansfield Hospital Nursing

Nursing at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital

A letter from our Chief Nursing Officer

Nurses at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital are committed to delivering their best each and every day, which means great nurses caring for you. Nurses are part of a team of professionals dedicated to our mission to “improve the health of those we serve.”

Our nurses are empowered to make a difference in nursing care, in which they improve and own patient outcomes. Our nurses demonstrate autonomy, are involved with evidence-based practice and research, and are expected and encouraged to grow and develop in their role. All of this work fosters pride and positivity in our workplace and our community.

I am very proud to say that we are on the Journey to Magnet Excellence®  with our initial document to be submitted to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in June 2022. This document will include stories that we are thrilled to share, and care that is inspired by our work and guided by our values of excellence, compassion, stewardship, integrity and inclusion.

This designation is the highest honor and most prestigious distinction a hospital can receive for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care by the ANCC. These benefits are not just for the nurses providing excellent care, but for our patients as well. Hospitals with this designation attract and retain talent, demonstrate better patient safety and satisfaction, foster a collaborative culture, and use advance nursing standards and practice.

Creating and sustaining a culture of excellence is what it means to be on the Magnet® journey. The process of applying is thorough and lengthy, and it demands widespread participation within the organization. Mansfield Hospital’s Nursing Philosophy

Nursing practice is guided by the core values of the organization: Compassion, Excellence, Integrity, Stewardship, and Inclusion.

In support of the organization's mission to "improve the health of those we serve," and cardinal value to "honor the dignity and worth of each person":

Professional Practice Model

The professional practice care model for OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital guides the practice of all nurses. It illustrates the alignment and integration of nursing practice with the mission, vision and values of our organization. Mansfield Hospital is a place where our citizens are an active part of our evolving advancements, which are based on the foundations of our community’s past, as we aim to create an innovative tomorrow! The carousel is a popular icon of Mansfield and serves as a representation of the key points Mansfield Hospital continuously strives to maintain.

  • The theater setting represents Mansfield’s iconic Renaissance Theatre.
  • The carousel horses represent our patients.
  • The central pillar represents our pillars of care: patient-centered, innovation, advanced practice, evidence-based, community partnership, and empowerment.
  • The model is supported by the base representing our core values of excellence, stewardship, compassion, integrity, and inclusion, structured on our core delivery model of relationship-based care.
  • The audience represents our community members.

Care Delivery System: Relationship-Based Care (RBC)

Relationship-based care is a practice model that empowers nurses to impact lives and help others. The model is built around three key relationships.

  1. Relationship with themselves
  2. Relationship with co-workers
  3. Relationship with patients and their families

Building relationships establish rapport, trust and connectedness with the caregiver, patient and family.

Shared Governance

Shared Governance is the structure supporting nurses’ participation in shared decision-making.

  • All nurses have the opportunity to participate in shared decision-making.
  • Culture of accountability and empowerment is created.
  • Nurses make decisions closest to where the work is happening.
  • Nurses focus on the patient experience and make positive changes in their care.
  • All nursing council members are in alignment with the priorities of the nursing strategic plan.
  • Talent management, greater professional development, and increased collaboration and communication among all nurses are supported.

  • Inspire: All associates are encouraged to recognize each other for everyday achievements and behaviors that support compassion, excellence, stewardship, integrity, inclusion, innovation and risk-taking.
  • STARS: This individual award is for the person exemplifying one of the core values of the organization.
