Certified Stroke Centers
Comprehensive Stroke Center
OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital was the first hospital in Ohio to be certified by The Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. We have the infrastructure, staff and training to treat patients with the most complex strokes. That’s why more and more patients of the OhioHealth Neuroscience Center at Riverside Methodist are surviving and returning home sooner. View our publicly reported outcomes data.
Primary Stroke Centers
Access to lifesaving stroke care is important wherever you live. So we’ve worked hard to ensure that OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, OhioHealth Doctors Hospital, OhioHealth Marion General Hospital and OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital are certified as Primary Stroke Centers by The Joint Commission for best practices in stroke care.
Mobile Stroke Unit
OhioHealth partnered with central Ohio health systems to create a Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit (MSTU), a specialized vehicle designed specifically to treat stroke patients. The mobile unit is staffed by advanced practice providers, CT techs and paramedics specially trained in stroke care, and connects virtually with OhioHealth stroke neurologists during the drive to the hospital. It also has an onboard CT scanner and point-of-care laboratory testing equipment, ensuring that strokes are diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.
Stroke Alert System
Every minute counts when it comes to treating stroke. At OhioHealth, we created a Stroke Alert System that enables us to rapidly and expertly evaluate, diagnose and treat stroke patients, before the patient even gets to the hospital.
Stroke Prevention Clinic
The OhioHealth Stroke Prevention Clinic is designed to manage patients who have already suffered a stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack, or mini stroke). The clinic provides intervention to reduce the risk of a second stroke, and supports patients and caregivers through the recovery process. Registered nurses connect with patients within three days of discharge to conduct an assessment, schedule the first clinic appointment, and link patients to additional resources.
The clinic’s home is the OhioHealth Neuroscience Center, where patients have access to a team of vascular neurologists and advanced practice nurses, physical, speech and occupational therapists, a registered dietitian, and a social worker.
