Sports-related Surgeries, such as Meniscus Tear and ACL Repair

Whether you’re a professional athlete or weekend warrior, sports-related injuries can occur. Meniscus tears (damage to the cartilage “pads” in your knee joint) can often be repaired arthroscopically – through a scope inserted in a small incision – and have you home the same day of surgery. Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are most commonly sustained during a sport where the knee is hyperextended and twisted upon impact. Your surgeon will talk to you about the different techniques to repair your ACL and determine the best option to get you back to activity as soon as possible.

Partial Knee Replacement - Robotic

Partial Knee Replacement

In partial knee replacement (also called unicompartmental knee replacement), only a portion of the knee is resurfaced. OhioHealth is proud to offer robotic-assisted (MAKOplasty) partial knee replacement.

Our experts use 3-D computer mapping and an interactive robotic arm system to implant a partial artificial knee. The procedure is very accurate, allowing surgeons to remove only the part of your knee that has been damaged by disease. Your healthy tissue is not disturbed.

Benefits of MAKOplasty versus traditional knee replacement include:

  • Treating knee osteoarthritis at an earlier stage
  • Treating knee osteoarthritis at an earlier stage
  • Less bone and blood loss
  • Can shorten the hospital stay - sometimes going home the same day of surgery
  • Results in a more natural knee movement
  • Patients have the potential to recover more quickly, allowing a faster return to normal lifestyle

Total Knee Replacement

Total Knee Replacement

During knee replacement surgery (also called knee arthroplasty) an orthopedic surgeon makes precise measurements and skillfully remove the diseased portions of your bone in order to shape the remaining bone to accommodate an artificial knee implant. The implant results in a highly realistic artificial joint.

OhioHealth has expert orthopedic surgeons trained in the use of minimally invasive techniques that can lead to quicker recovery times and less pain — allowing some total knee replacement patients to go home the same day of surgery!

Patients and their families are at the center of all we do. From helping you prepare for your knee surgery, to post-surgery rehab — our focus is on reducing your stress and getting back to the things you love.

Pre-surgery Education

Research shows that patients who received education about their procedure and recovery before having a knee replacement have better outcomes than those who don’t. Our Joint Class is available at no cost to you and your care giver. We want you to have the best experience and recovery possible. Ask your physician about signing up for a joint class.
